These are some important care tips for your houseplants during winter season!
Winter season its definitely a challenge for plants parents, low temperature days or lack of sunlight are one of the factors that could affect our home plants, causing the soil to dry out faster than normal and eventually killing them.
You have to be very careful when bringing your plants inside for the winter and follow these tips that would help you to keep your plants happy, hydrated and full of color in these cold upcoming months.
1. Know your plants care routines!
For any plant owner, it doesn't matter if you have one or two plants or you turned your apartment into an indoor jungle, it is always important to know that most houseplants require a different care routine during winter season, some houseplants can benefit from the lower temperatures while others may need a little boost and some extra care in order to make it through out the season.
Houseplants such as Snake plants, Spider plants, Philodendrons, ZZ plants, Fiddle Leaf Fig, Pothos and many others are houseplants that can survive all season long or prefer lower levels of light and temperatures.
2. Give them light!
During the winter season the amount of sunlight that we get is shortened due daylight saving, meaning that the sun goes down earlier than usual and because of that the amount of sunlight that our plants usually receive during the day is simnifically limited.
Plants that need bright or direct light will be affected during the winter, so you may need to move some of your plants to maximize their light exposure. It can help to put them near a bright window, but don’t put them too close as windows often get chilly at night.
3. Pruning during winter!
Some of your plants are going to feel the effects of the low temperature, the best thing you can do in this situation is to cut any browning or yellow leaves, this encourages healthier and new growth, you should start pruning your plants in late winter or early spring which is basically growing season for many variates of plants. However, woody houseplants are an exception because they require pruning all year long!
4. Remove the dust from the leaves!
