First, lets get to know this gorgeous plant!
The Monstera , also commonly known as windowleaf, swiss cheese plant or ceriman, gets its name from its large, heart-shaped leaves, which become covered with holes that resemble swiss cheese as it gets older. Part of the Araceae family that's native to South and Central America, this houseplant is popular everywhere, thanks to its unique appearance.
They can be tough to take care of if you live in a colder climate, but even then, you can be successful with these plants. Even beginning plant parents will be able to take care of a Monstera. They're low-maintenance plants that are great for any beginning plant owner.
1. Beginner friendly and easy to care!
Monstera plants are a great choice if you're a beginner plant parent or just busy because of work, you wont have to worry while your away about these beauties loosing their bright colors
They are drougt tolerant! Monstera don't need much water. You can let the soil dry out between waterings. The plant will “sweat” when the soil is too wet, giving you an obvious sign of over watering.
2. Easy to propagate!
Monsteras are quite simple and esy to propagate by stem cuttings. You can also use air layering
A few reasons why you might want to propagate your Monstera is to start growing your own plants from old cuttings instead of buying new ones. You can also give them to family and friends as unique gifts!
3. Purifies the air at home!
If you didn’t already know, some houseplants can help purify the air at home and keep the air in your home clean and fresh. One of these plants is the Monstera.
In the 1980's a group of scientist of NASA’s Clean Air Study, began to study the potential for houseplants to purify the air inside space stations and found that certain kinds of plants are significantly better at removing chemicals and pollutants.
Since then we now know that plants with big, wide leaves – like a Monstera plant – can help remove toxins from the air. While it may not be able to remove every single toxin it comes into contact with, it can still remove a big enough number of them to improve the overall air quality in your home.
4. Can survive in low lights!
They grow can well wether you live in a apartment or house with sunlight or not, with direct or low light these plants are going to be just fine! However with NO light, they're not going to thrive but they wont die.
Bright, indirect light is the monstera’s favorite and encourages it to grow, and grow quickly! If you want to grow a big, striking monstera to make a statement, put it in a bright room a few feet from a window, or right by a window that doesn’t get much direct sunlight (like a north or east-facing window). You’ll have a gorgeous, towering monstera in no time!
5. Eliminates Odors!
Since monstera plants can both remove toxins from the air and help control the humidity in your home, they will also help eliminate some odors and prevent your home from becoming musty due to too much moisture leading to mold and mildew growth.
